Travis Barker & DJ AM Critically Injured In Plane Crash
Travis Barker and DJ AM are the only two that survived a plane crash early Saturday morning in South Carolina. Four other people lost their lives. Travis and DJ AM are at a burn center in Augusta, Georgia.
TMZ has learned Travis Barker has been burned from the waist down, but he is expected to survive the plane crash. DJ AM’s face was severely burned and is being tended to right now.
E! News was able to speak to a friend of DJ AM and this is what they had to say:
According to the source, AM is “really, really badly burned” and confirms that “his face is very burned.” The source adds, “More than 50 percent of his body is burned and the worst is on his face.”
The friend also said that Travis was burned “mostly from the waist down.”
Both men are in critical but stable condition at the Joseph Still Burn Center in Augusta, Ga. E! News was told by the source that, as of this morning, DJ AM was being “kept in an incubator” as part of his treatment in order to maintain a sterile environment and prevent infections.
The source also said that AM was looking forward to coming home last night and, in fact, e-mailed a picture to a friend that showed him standing next to the Lear Jet right before the ill-fated takeoff. “He sent a picture being like, ‘Hey, I’m coming home on this ride.’”
Both Travis and DJ AM are said to be recovering from severe burns covering their bodies. No word on any type of prognosis, but the two are not in good condition. Barker was transported via ground to a burn unit, while AM was airlifted.
This morning Dr. Fred Mullins of the Augusta, GA’s Joseph Still Burn Center held a press conferece saying that Travis and DJ AM are expected to make a full recovery! He also stated that Travis and DJ AM have second and third degrees burns. He added that it can take up to a year to recover from such burns but the two didn’t suffer any other type of injuries. He would only say that Travis was burned on his torso and DJ was burned on his hands and part of his head.
This sounds like good news given these awful circumstances.
