VMA Recap

If you were living under a rock last night or couldn’t catch the MTV Video Music Awards last night, here is a little recap of what went down. Madonna came out and gave a very heart wrenching speech about Michael Jackson. After that dancers came out and danced to Michael Jackson songs. Then Janet came out and performed scream. After that Russell Brand did his monologue, which was ok, but nothing funny or special.

Then it was time for the first award for best female video. To everyone’s surprise Taylor Swift won this award and she was so shocked and happy. She got up on stage and said she couldn’t believe a country song won a VMA or something to that effect. Then Kanye West came up on stage and literally took the mic out of Taylor’s hand and said, “Beyonce should have won she had the best video.” This left Taylor shocked and speechless. MTV quickly ushered Taylor off stage and played a skit of Tracy Morgan and Emeiem.

The rest of the night was pretty uneventful and blah. Taylor Swift did a great performance of her song You Belong to Me and totally rocked out in the Subway. Green Day preformed and rocked the house down. They also won for best rock video which Billie Joe said in his acceptance speech that MTV needs to play more music videos, which I couldn’t agree with him more. Pink gave a great performance of her son Sober, however her performing the song on a trapeze was a little strange. Then there was Lady Gaga. She gave a very disturbing, out of this world performance.

The other great highlight of the show was when Beyonce won for video of the year and said that when she was 17 years old and won her first VMA she remembers how exciting it was for her and asked Taylor to come out and give her acceptance speech.

Other than that not much happening at the VMA’s. I don’t understand why they can’t seem to get it right and copy successful formulas for years past. But then again it probably has to do with the fact that MTV never plays videos anymore.
